The Fold is deeply honoured to help our patron, Satish Kumar, celebrate his 90th birthday right here in Bransford! And we are delighted to offer this evening as a fundraiser for the Satish Kumar Foundation, in aid of Schumacher College.
There will be a buffet Indian meal in our café starting at 5:30pm, followed by a joyful programme at 7pm of music, dancing and a talk from Satish on “Highlights of my Life”(and since it’s his birthday, cake may also be involved!) All profits will go towards helping Schumacher College to find a permanent home.
Tickets can be purchased separately for the meal and evening programme below and all profits will go to the Schumacher College fund. You may also make a direct donation to Schumacher College below (even if you cannot attend).
Satish Kumar was born in 1936, in Sri Dungargarh, Rajasthan, India. A form Jain monk, Satish is a renowned Indian-British activist, author, and speaker known for his lifelong commitment to peace, ecology, and social justice.
In 1962 Satish undertook an extraordinary peace pilgrimage of over 8,000 miles on foot to the capitals of the world’s nuclear powers—Moscow, Paris, London, and Washington, D.C.—to promote nuclear disarmament and peace. He famously delivered “peace tea” packets to the leaders of these nations, emphasizing the need for dialogue and understanding rather than conflict.
In addition to his activism, Satish has been a significant figure in ecological education. He was Editor of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine and co-founded Schumacher College to focus on holistic education and sustainability. His work emphasizes “reverential ecology,” advocating for a deep respect for nature and the interconnectedness of all life.
Satish has authored several books, including his autobiography No Destination, which chronicles his life journey and philosophical insights. He continues to inspire others through lectures and workshops worldwide, promoting principles of ecological regeneration and spiritual fulfillment.
Today, Satish Kumar remains a prominent voice in discussions on ecology and spirituality, advocating for a more compassionate and sustainable world.
PLEASE NOTE THAT MEAL TICKETS AND PROGRAMME TICKETS ARE SOLD SEPARATELY BELOW. THERE IS ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DONATION TO SUPPORT SCHUMACHER COLLEGE.
