Yoga Therapy

About Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalised assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups. (IAYT)

What is the difference between yoga therapy and a yoga class?

You may go to a yoga class once or twice a week where you will go through a practice guided by  your teacher around a particular theme and within this practice you may try different postures, breathing practices, chanting, or learn about yogic philosophy and these sessions will often help your health and wellbeing in some way.

You are more likely to go to a yoga therapy session because you have a specific health problem for example a long history of back pain, gastric disorder, or you struggle with anxiety, or stress…

A yoga therapist refers to the pancamaya model (5 layers of the human system) to understand how the individual is experiencing the health problem and from this assessment the yoga therapist will agree and design a specific individualised practice with the recommendation of practising this as frequently as possible and follow up on this in a timely manner.
