The Fold Workshops
As a group of artisans, ‘The Fold Workshops’ offer a wide range of opportunities for you to come and spend some quality ‘you’ time learning new skills, immersing yourself in crafts that you love or just taking some time out from the busy pace of life.
We run classes and workshops in the following areas: sewing, needle felting, millinery, machine embroidery, decoupage, furniture painting, dress making, jewellery, and stained glass amongst many others. We are situated around the fabulous Fold Cafe so why not make a day of it?
Kerry Kernan Millinery
Kerry has studied and taught a wide range of textiles skills for over twenty years, being a qualified Textiles teacher. In this time, she discovered her love for millinery and accessories and created many bespoke creations for clients before deciding to establish her business, ‘Kerry Kernan Millinery & Textiles’.
Kerry likes to create her own style of ‘quirky meets classic’ and brings in many of her textiles skills to create unique pieces. In addition to her ready to wear range available in the studio, Kerry also offers a bespoke design service.
Kerry offers a range of millinery workshops from introductory fascinators through to more complex designs and creations. Kerry also offers one to one millinery tuition if any student wishes to work on a personal hat making project.
In addition to her millinery classes, Kerry also offers machine embroidery workshops, silk painting workshops, and jewellery workshops.
Workshops are held in Kerry’s studio in the rear courtyard of The Fold.

Jan has been ‘upcycling’ her own furniture for more than 20 years. Her passion for crafting something unique and beautiful, whilst ‘rescuing’ quality furniture took her from a managament career to a studio at The Fold 3 years ago.
Since then, she has completed courses using various brands of chalk paint and effects, including distressing, ageing, embellishing, decoupage, as well as a sleeker contemporary style. Having kept herself updated on what various companies have to offer, she has a unique wider view and experience on what products are best for the look you want to achieve. She can give a candid view on each product because she isn’t tied into a brand by selling their paint.
Most of all she wants you to have fun and give it a go!
Jan holds regular half-day furniture painting workshops at The Fold, and you can hire a bespoke class at a time to suit you where 3 or more people book together. Having booked on her course you have free access to her help and advice forever!
In addition, Jan offers shorter classes on decoupage crafting on glass and other household objects.
For example, you can make a unique tea-light holder, coaster, bottles, trays, hanging decorations. These classes are usually about 2 hours long, and can also be held at a time to suit a small group of 3 or more. They make a great focus for a birthday or social gathering – how about a Paint and Prosecco get together?!
Kathryn’s passion for creating exquisite paper products began when she made her own wedding stationery back in 2001. Since then, she has gone on to design and create bespoke wedding stationery suites for numerous couples as well as unique invitations for many other special occasions.
co-friendly materials and processes are at the heart of everything that Kathryn creates. All letterpress stationery is printed on “Harold”, her 1878, half ton treadle platen press or on other manually powered presses. Her collection of antique wooden and metal type thankfully escaped being skipped or melted down when modern printing methods took over in the 1970s. She also uses recycled, tree-free and FSC Approved papers and non-toxic ink from British, family run operations.
Kathryn offers workshops in linocut printing, letterpress printing and shibori indigo fabric dyeing. Contact her for details.
