It is the practice of applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands to influence the health of corresponding parts of the body. By using a compression technique and a form of massage using the thumbs, fingers or knuckles, ‘pressure sensors’ on the hands and feet connect with different parts of the body and when stimulated create a signal throughout the nervous system to the brain which in turn stimulates the organs to regulate and improve the way they function.

Reflexology is all about bringing balance, harmony and a sense of well-being to the body. It can be used to aid health and encourage relaxation, prevent disease, reduce pain and improve quality of life. One application can interrupt stress, further sessions condition change to take place, and ongoing application teaches the body to operate more effectively. It offers an opportunity to put your feet up, relax and take time out for yourself, gaining a boost to your health and sense of well-being.

People have been practicing this ancient therapy for over 5,000 years. It is a non-invasive touch therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself.

Reflexologists are there to support you as a whole person and promote your wellbeing. They do not diagnose, prescribe or cure, however after a treatment plan most people feel more relaxed, less stressed, have improved sleep and a general feeling of well-being.

I cherish the opportunity to help people and I am fascinated by the body, especially the feet! Initially I worked for ten years as a graphic designer but the break to have a baby instigated a change of heart and led me to training in Rosen Method- a form of somatic bodywork to ease muscular tension, which involves a ‘listening’ touch and respectful dialogue. Through my training I became more aware of the therapeutic benefits of touch and the natural healing ability of the body. I studied a diploma in Reflexology so I could learn in detail about the feet and how they correspond with the body. I am continuing with my Rosen Method studies and as a qualified reflexologist. I am an accredited member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists.

I continue to be amazed at the power of reflexology and how treating the feet can effect the entire body. To find out more please feel free to contact me or visit my website.

ABOUT louise…

I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists. This is a highly professional organisation with high entry requirements and code of practice and ethics. I completed a level 3 Diploma at Cheltenham School of Complementary Therapy followed by a Diploma at the London School of Reflexology in pregnancy and pre-pregnancy, as I have a particular interest in fertility issues.

I noticed reflexology was having a positive effect on common health issues which led me to complete a diploma course on dementia, stroke, sensory loss, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease.
