Awantika has been singing since she was two and a half and performing since the age of four. She sings classical Indian ragas, semi-classical and Bundeli folk songs of which she has collected some 2,000 from around her home town of Khajuraho. She is also an exceptional Katkak dancer who has been trained by many leading gurus such as Maestro Pt. Ram Mohan Maharaj and has studied theatre with Sushri Vibha Mishra.
She has regularly sung on all Indian radio and won the University Youth Festival of Indian Classical Vocal Competition. She is one of a rare breed of artists who can sensitively combine song and dance. Very much inspired by nature Awantika brings the divine to life. She says “I don’t think so much about entertaining the audience as bringing the music to life in their souls.”
She founded the ‘Awantika Arts Centre for Music and Dance’ in Khajuraho which she runs with her brother Akash where she trains local and international students. She is now an empanelled artist of ICCR and composes, performs and directs internationally. We are delighted she is able to offer her skills here at The Fold. See www.awantikaarts.in
