We are expanding, with Laura Norman starting as a full time farmer and Emma Wurmli joining 2 days per week to host the Care Farm. We'll become a team in mid-Feb, and the first crops will go into the new field 'Cherry Orchard' in the late Spring. Our trainee Kathy Beckett will join us in March.
I've just completed our first seed order for 2017 - this is the perfect time to go through your seed box, see what's still viable, and order new seeds for this year! If you don't already know them, I highly recommend the Real Seed Company (www.realseeds.co.uk). For many reasons, I feel that they're the most ethical seed producer out there!
Our local volunteers continue to be indispensible, and I look forward to continuing our fun and productive days together from February.
We will continue to host our Family Gardening days in each school holiday, and will mark the turning of the year with celebrations and ceremonies at the equinoxes and solstices (keep your eye on the mailouts and Fold website for dates).
We also plan to host some community action days to create a beautiful and functional social space in Cherry Orchard, including seating, a fire pit, raised beds and compost toilets, so stay in touch if you feel like you'd like to get involved!
The Spring will also bring hens to the Fold - their luxury mobile accomodation is almost finished. I look forward to collecting warm eggs for the farm shop!
With love and mud from the garden,
