Hi, I’m Keith Falconer who over the last few months, has been writing blogs about nature and the nature trail at the Fold, which can be found on the Fold website.
I am also watching all the wildlife around the area and, in particular, the larger birds and mammals - but also wild flowers, fungi and even the snails and insects. You may have heard that many of our wild species like hedgehogs and butterflies and wildlife in general are threatened. Indeed they are vanishing fast from our countryside. Even common birds like sparrows are becoming rare.
As a volunteer and naturalist I would like to help stop that decline and reverse it if possible. So with everyone’s help and hard work, the loss of habitat for wild plants and animals can be stopped and new areas created to preserve di-versity and even help new species to survive in the land and buildings of the Fold. I see lots of wild species, including wild birds such as ducks and geese, buzzards and even the footprints of otters all the time on and in the lakes and fields around The Fold. I want to help all wild species survive and thrive, with your help.
I hope to see you enjoying the countryside and its wildlife around the Fold and if you meet me (usually dressed as above) then please come and say hello and ask what is around and where to find it. BUT please don't touch or pick anything and for the wildlife's sake, keep your dog on a lead AND on the trail.
GOOD WILDLIFE SPOTTING IN 2017!
