Pictured at the opening at 10am on Wednesday 23rd May 2007 are Will Tooby, co-founder of The Fold®, and local residents Pat and Cecil Dee, the EcoCafé's first customers. “We've waited for this a long time,” said Pat, who has lived in Bransford for 52 years, all her married life. “Over the years I have seen the local village wither and die — now we will have somewhere to go which will bring life to the local community.”
Cecil, first set foot in the building which now houses the EcoCafé in 1945, on the day of his 15th birthday when, when he started work as a waggoners' boy employed by John Tooby, father of Will who is co-founder of The Fold®. “I've seen many changes on the farm since I was a lad, tending the hop fields, working with the animals, then working on the nursery,” said Cecil, “and I walked to work every day of my life, I know exactly how many steps it is to my house, now I can walk to the Café, see my friends and keep in touch with what's happening.”
