Nutritional Therapy is a holistic approach to health and nutrition, concentrating on the underlying cause rather than simply treating the symptoms. It encompasses the use of carefully compiled individual prescriptions for diet and lifestyle in order to alleviate or prevent ailments and promote optimal health.
I have always been interested in the effects that foods can have on the human body, especially after recognising my own reaction to certain foods. This interest inspired me to seek out Human Biology books from the library and eventually books on Nutrition. I then researched the qualifications necessary to become a Nutritionist. After six years, studying on a part-time basis, I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist through Thames Valley University, graduating in September 2009.
My work experience has allowed me the privilege of working with children and their parents, promoting and explaining the benefits of a healthy diet combined with a healthy lifestyle (I am a registered practitioner in this particular field at www.weightawareuk.co.uk). I have also worked with groups of adults, referred by their Doctors, to address underlying health concerns such as diabetes, heart conditions, obesity, high cholesterol; concentrating on incorporating a healthy eating plan into their lifestyle.
I conduct one-to-one consultations with clients, to date addressing an array of symptoms and conditions including; psoriasis, irritable bowel symptoms, asthma, hypertension, insomnia, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, acne, anxiety, headaches, rosacea, obesity and weight loss issues.
I also present workshops on 'Treating Anxiety through Nutritional Therapy'. This is in conjunction with Charles Linden and The Linden Method (www.anxietyrecoveryretreat.co.uk). These workshops have proved to be lively, informative events where participants have learnt much about the effect their diet can have on their anxiety symptoms, general health and energy levels.
Having seen the positive impact that my consultations have made to date, I believe I am well equipped to help people address their health concerns through instigating appropriate nutritional changes.
The Fold is a fabulous place to meet clients, with its relaxing and calm environment. To find out more about consultations, please visit my website www.Jackiedonkin.co.uk or phone me for an informal chat on 07879 640569.
