Volunteering at The Fold

"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." ~ William James

Current opportunities

IT support

We are looking for someone to support the monitoring and maintenance of The Fold’s computer systems and networks. This includes the central office IT infrastructure, the IT systems of the Cafe and the Fold Farm, as well as the internet network and access points across The Fold site.

We are looking for someone who is tech-savvy and passionate about secure, stable and effective IT systems, who also enjoys working with people and helping them to make the best use of IT solutions.

You may install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware and software faults and solve technical and applications problems, either over the phone, via email or in person.

This is an ideal opportunity for people with a passion for IT who want to contribute to a more sustainable society.

Fold Journalist

We are looking for someone to become the Fold Journalist.

The Fold is an umbrella for a diverse range of sustainability activities including Healthy Food, Natural Therapies, Arts and Crafts, Wildlife, Local Economy, Events, Education, Spiritual Development and more. A lot of good stuff happens here, but too often we lack the capacity to tell the world about it as much as we would like to.

As The Fold journalist, you would have access to all areas of a daring and diverse social enterprise, develop an awareness of what is going on, attend events, talk to members of the team and publish the stories that you discover as blogs, social media posts, newsletters, press releases and through other media channels.

Why volunteer?

Here are some reasons which may help you to make up your mind about the value of becoming a volunteer. Volunteering is good for you! It:

  • provides social contact which can help to reduce stress and make you feel healthier.
  • can help you gain professional experience.
  • brings people together from diverse backgrounds to work towards a common goal, experiencing camaraderie and teamwork.
  • helps promote personal growth and self esteem, and provides an opportunity to learn a lot about yourself and others.
  • is a chance to ‘give back’ to your local community.

Above all, by volunteering you can make a difference, to yourself and others.

Why Volunteer at The Fold?

The Fold is a Community Interest Company. This means we work for the benefit of the local community and any financial gain we make, after paying for staff and other costs, goes directly back into the organisation so that we can support more community-based projects. However, we cannot gauge the ‘gain’ or ‘profit’ which is achieved from volunteering, which is probably greater than the satisfaction of making money.

Our mission at The Fold is to become a living example of a truly sustainable organisation.

As you can see from our website we have an onsite Café, a Care Farm and garden, a range of studios and shops, and The Fold Natural Therapy Centre too. All these areas from time to time require help, even if it’s just once a year at one of our festivals.
